Incase anyone besides me owns a boat with a front live well that has a through the hull bulkhead fitting for the intake supply, don't and I repeat, don't, drive your boat onto the trailer like the maker of the boat says that you can!!
I don't remember any noise or unusual bump the last time I trailered the boat at the ramp, so I didn't know that I had a serious problem. Until, you guessed it, I drove the 90 minutes it takes me to get to Union Springs ramp up on Cayuga lake and was about 400 yards from the ramp and couldn't get up on plane. My first thought was a forgotten plug, but I had actually tightened it down with my Gerber, so that wasn't a possibility. I was lucky to not be too far from the ramp and headed back in. It was still only 5:30am.
I was hoping that maybe I had a live well hose off or something else simple, but not to be.. The through hull fitting was broken off right at the hull and water was poring threw the 1.5 inch opening faster then any bilge could handle. So the long drive home was less then fun.
Now for $5.00 worth of parts its going to cost me about $200.00 including labor to have someone who knows how to get to it , fix it. Theres just no way to get to it without ripping the floor or deck up. Figured at least the dealer where I bought it will back up there product with some expert repairs, my fingers are crossed.
Worst part of the whole deal was I was taking a guy with me that had never experienced lake fishing before and it was a complete wash.
So I am writing this to warn everyone to be careful and to basically get the sympathy of fellow boat owners. A buddy once told me " a boat is a big hole in the water that you keep throwing money into" but so far I don't want to believe him, how bout you guy's??
