We have a 17' boat Arkansas Traveler (1948) with an 18 horse Nissan and another 17' "No name" that is painted camof*ge with a 25 horse Evenrude. Both are V hull construction and cut the waves on Black Lake like a dream. I spend a lot of time in the "Arkansas". That was my father-in-laws boat and... Nissan rulez!

Funny you mention the v-hull cutting the waves. Last year we used my 14' mod-V jon boat. It was fairly wide and was very stable while drifting. But, the mostly flat bottom made for a few very bumpy and wet runs. I know have a basic 14' deep V that we'll use this year. Maybe we'll stay a little bit dryer.

We keep a 14 footer at the camp for the grandkids to play with but won't let them go out more than 50 feet or so. The wind can come up in a heart beat and you will find yourself a long way from where you were going if you lucky. If the luck isn't with you that day the waves will get you quick!

That looks like a dory with hand carved oars and a custom motor. It must have taken you years to put that together. A fine piece of craftsmanship. Is it tippy?
I inherited a Smokercraft with a 35hp Merc. from my father in-law. After 6 years in drydock it is going to float again this year, god willing. ( I hope...)

That motor is a Cruise n carry 1.2hp air cooled. They don't make them any more. It is going to be listed soon on eBay. I upgraded to a 6 hp Nissan 4 stroke. Thanks for the compliment

Larger models were used in the Chesapeake Bay area for, what else, fishing. This is incredibly stable even when it lays to the side. and fast when rowed. I often row it for trolling a jitterbug on calm water. works great. I do have a set of hand carved oars, but not that pair. This boat was about 300 hours. Hope we see that smokercraft on the lake this summer!!

With a 6hp on your Wherry you'll be blowing down the lake so fast you'll never see me. Life will be a blurrrr.... Kinda like that Star Trek episode where they move faster than everyone else bzzzzzz.... 300 hundred hours! Now that's commitment. I hope to get up to the lake if my schedule and wife permit. I've got 10 bass tournaments this year. Maybe I'll be able to work out some R & R time.
