Fished from 8AM till 2:30 PM today. Friggen hands are so cold I'll have to make sure to do a spell check before posting this. Concentrated the west shoreline as it was the leeward and more comfortable. Began a slowwww troll with the electric motor almost directly across from the launch. Didn't get too far before we landed the first crappie. Threw out a marker and re trolled the area a couple times with no more fish. Didn't get any more crappie till we got past the point with the hanger and seaplane. In the next bay we got several more crappies and some decent perch. Only caught 4 keeper crappies ranging from 10 - 12 3/4 inches. Kept 6 perch 10 - 11 inches. The crappies were all caught in 91/2 - 11 FOW. The perch in 91/2 - 6 FOW. All fish were caught trolling a 16th oz jighead with a blue split tail grub body. Water temp in the main lake was 48.8 this AM and warmed to 49.3 by afternoon. Around noon we went up into the inlet to see if any had moved into the slightly warmer water. Temps there were 50.3. Had a couple bites with no hookups. I didn't hear the weatherman say anything about snow today!!!!!

I was at Honeoye on Sunday. Talked to lots of people and most were telling us to fish south of the plane. I never got a chance to fish had to put the docks in. Hope to get a chance this weekend. I have had luck on the east side north of the marina. 5 feet of water with 1/32 jig tipped with worm. The day we fished brown worked best. Lots of bluegils as well

I think the water is still alittle too cold for the crappie to really turn on. Wit the recent weather it couldn't have warmed much since last Thursday. Things are looking a little different for this weekend, however. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it down. Fortunately, I have to pick up my wife from a weekend conference at Chautauqua at 1:00 Sunday afternoon. Might just as well trailer the boat down and fish the morning bite for crappies.

I fish Honeoye this morning. The rain held off most of the day. No luck with the crappie's on this day. The 4 lb LM was nice to see but the big surprise was the 34 in pike. Lite tackle and about 15 min. later he was in the boat. This was the first pike at Honeoye I have seen in years. The water was 60 in most places we went, and we threw everything at them. I can't remember what the pike was caught on , my boss got that one.

34" pike - now that's a nice fish. What a way to impress the boss. (You don't mean the wife do you?) ;D You guys musta thought you had a monster walleye. Also read on MFF that a guy got a trout (rainbow, I think) a week or so ago. Some surprises in that lake.

Yeah we did think it was a walleye , and it was my work boss not the home boss lol. The trout in interesting, I have never heard of them in this lake. I here they are still getting walleyes right in front of the plane. Brown jig with a worm. 18 feet of water in the middle of the day. The guy down the street from me has been getting them all season. I still am in crappie mode for now. It won't be long till I give it a try.

Did the crappie ever get fired up on Honeoye this year. I would love to get into a bunch. I think either tomorrow or Thurs. night I'll have to hit Erie for a shot at some walleyes.

I would not call it hot at any point . We have had some good days. But we still have some time.

Took the grandsons out today - 11 and 7 yrs old. This was the first time in the boat fishing for the 7 yr old & I wanted to make sure we got into fish. Targeted gills and went prepared with a variety of baits. Minnows, worms, spikes and a variety of small tube jigs as well as the arsenal of ice fishing jigs. Started he 7 yr old with a small ice jig and spike, the older boy with a small jig and piece of worm and a minnow on a jig for myself. Turned out the spikes were the ticket for today. Started in about 8 FOW and caught lots of small fish. Went out to 10 FOW and lowered the hook from the bobber and began to get some decent fish. The bigger fish seemed to come and go with the smaller fish hitting almost constantly. The younger boy caught the first fish the they both caught bigger fish than I did. We came home with 30 fish, enough so both their families can get a meal. We probably only kept one in 5 or less. Fished for three hours till the heat chased us home to the pool at about 12:30. The older has been hooked on fishing for quite a few years and the younger guy is hooked now. He had a ball - heck all three of us did. BTW - the guy at the booth who collects the launch fee was a super nice guy. Informed me that anyone entering a state park (which the launch at Honeoye and Silver are) who is 62 yrs or older gets in free Mon - Fri. Launched free today. He also was great with the kids.

Had my 3 year old out today , we only had about 1/2 hour to keep her fishing but she did pick up a bunch of pan fish . We had no problem getting her to let them go. Not sure she wanted them in the boat. Lots of fun
