Yeah I have been working on my boat. I have to put the docks in this month as well. I tend to stay at Honeoye once the boat is docked. At least till bass season opens. If you ever go to Honeoye let me know , I can hook you up on some hot spots. If you fish during the week , this is a nice place to come. Very busy on the weekends. Lots of bucket months and great walleye fishing. They had to lower the size to 15 in. They started to take the lake over. I tend to find alot of taged fish. DEC want you to call the # in. Cant wait for the Cayuga report Well its been a long time coming but here it is. Went up to Cayuga on Tuesday, put in at Union Springs. Wind was doing its normal 10 to 15 mph. Tried out around the island for a bit but couldn't get a jig down deep enough for the perch cause of the wind. So we went in towards the shallower water of the cove and fished where the weeds will be. The water temp there was about 52, out near the island it was only 48. Did it make a difference, you bet. We started hooking into some nice sized pickerel. Most were 20 to 24 inches long but very thick in the middle. The wife out fished me pretty bad, about 8 to 2. But she did have the color they seemed to go for, a bleeding red and black, double willowleaf spinnerbait, the only one in our box. When I put a red and black skirt on another spinnerbait I started getting follows right away. We had probably, with no fisherman lie, about twenty other follows and a few lost fish. We fished from about 10:30a til about 3:00p. The toothy guys will keep me occupied until bass season. I leave Monday morning for BL, hope something will pull my string. Ridg.

Alittle something to get you on the water sooner then later.. Cayuga Lake today. Not many fish, weather was unbelievable, wind under 5mph and slightly cloudy. Unfortunately every fish in the north end of the lake is too busy getting lucky. The lgm bass, pickerel, blue gill and let us not forget the ever horny carp. The carp are breaking water all over the place, any water shallower then 15 ft. has 5 to 10 males trying to nail one poor female.. Not good odds for the guy's. Did manage to catch 2 really nice bucket mouths about 5 lbs each. Got one on a spinner bait and one on a rattletrap. Picked up a few bluegill and one pickerel as well.. Hope all the fish give up the honeymoon suite soon, makes fishing tough when they think about procreation all the time and don't take a break to eat.. Makes me feel like a teenager again ;D

I have not made it to cayuga but have my plan all ready when I do. I go to black friday and hope to hit the Bass on a good week. When I get back The wife's family is in town and I will bring the boat to Cayuga for some waterskiing and fun , but I just might have to go early and make sure the boat runs right. I might as well bring my poles for a little bass fun. One more thing I want to plan a fall trip for a couple of out of state guys and it might be during duck season . What is it like at the north end of the lake . I don't want to be in anyone's way but can I find a place to fish.

Most of them seem in bad shape but the guy's probably show up to get them ready just before the season.. As you know the lake is lined with cottages so there should be some places where the duck boys couldn't shoot anyway. Try around the marina at Union Springs, bass, pickerel and maybe a northern. Out near the island the same plus perch. This will keep you away from the duck hunters but will limit your opportunities. I'm not sure when duck season starts but would like to help when the time gets closer.

Cayuga Lake during duck season is hit and miss. Union Springs is loaded with Duck guides for out of staters. Don't go near the island there are usually at least 2 blinds there. There are one or 2 blinds in the north part of the bay just beyond the "inlet" also. The shore line near cottages usually isn't too bad. But be careful some guys set up blinds in there front yards. North of the train bridge is a "boat at your own risk" zone.
We normally troll for pike and pickerel in the fall. If you stay in 12 to 15 feet of water you are generally away from the hunters. They won't bother you if you don't bother them. We have actually helped by moving floating birds up off the water so that they resettle in closer to shore. If you don't buzz their decoys or sit in a hunting area the hunters won't bother you. We take a pair of binoculars and scan the shoreline before motoring in towards any bays or protected areas. From about 11 AM until 3 PM is usually fairly safe too, but not always.
Enjoy the fishery but keep your head down. It can be a great time to be on the water.

I never have fished that late on Cayuga but I think we will be able to go during the week. I hope that will help. I have fished black during duck season and have been able to stay out of there way. Thanks for the info from both of you
